The Adventures of Odysseus - An Introduction

Many moons ago, when I was a young and budding editor at Chandamama, I worked with an amazing team. I was given a free hand to write whatever I wished. Only that I had to keep my young audience in mind and cater to any of the three age groups. Fresh into writing, brimming with a zillion ideas and a team that cheered me on, I set up weekly and monthly targets and reached them one after another without any hesitation.

One fine day, I decided to rewrite Homer's Odyssey, the story of the Grecian hero, for adolescent readers. I read up the entire story and re-read it multiple times until I knew every character and location and incident thoroughly. And, over the next one-and-a-half years, in the 21-chapter series, Odysseus meandered through the Aegean, Ionian, and Mediterranean seas and the lands lining them, before finally reaching Ithaca, his kingdom. It was published in the children's monthly magazine called Children's Digest, which is still in circulation.

I'm resharing the story of Odysseus as written in the early 2000s, without any editing.
