Poetry in translation

You and I may sway with the swing or like a bird or butterfly, take to the wing. But for all tricks we think we know, time has plenty more to show.
Presenting a wonderful take on life in this Tamil poem written by
Karkuzhali Sreedhar
by reproducing here with her prior permission alongside an English translation by moi:
.
Up and down
sways the swing.
Freeing the hand which held,
jumping and leaping
before batting an eye,
catching the lone wire,
twisting the body,
entering the ring,
somersaulting backwards,
planting the feet
on the ground
without tripping,
raising a hand
with a stylish gait
goes life.

Poetry in transation

.
Curling up and poking
stretching and curving
protruding and pushing
the tongue eliminates the unwanted.
Through its layered memory
climbing up and down and sliding
the mind spends its time
Somehow not so elegantly
