நேசம்
அவள் மரங்களிடம் பேசுபவள்
அதன்மேல் வந்தமரும்
பறவைகளுடனும்தான்.
தழைக்கும் கிளைகளுக்கும்
கூட்டிலுறையும் குஞ்சுகளுக்கும்
வேலியாக இருப்பாள்.
மழையற்ற கோடைகளில்
வேர்களுக்கு நீரும்
பறவைகளுக்குத் தானியமும் இரைப்பாள்.
தாம்புக் கயிறும் கோடரியும் தாங்கிவரும்
மனிதர்களிடமிருந்து
சீற்றமிகு தெய்வத்தைப்போலக்
காவல் செய்தாள்.
பின்னொரு நாளில்
கனத்த மனமும்
தளர்ந்த தேகமும்
நீர்முட்டும் விழிகளுமென
அவளிருந்த நேரத்தில்
கனிந்த மரம் தலைசாய்த்துத்
தென்றலை வீசி
அவள்மீது பூக்களைச் சொரிந்தது.
இறக்கை முளைத்த குஞ்சுகள்
இசைத்த இன்னிசைக் கூவல்
முகாரியை மோகனமாக
மிளிரச் செய்தது.
She is the one who talks to the trees
And to the birds
that perch there too
To the spreading branches
And the baby birds
She serves as a protector fence
In the rainless Summer
She pours the nurturing water to the roots
And grains to the bird
she scatters
From those who descend upon them with
ropes and axe
She stands guard
like an angry goddess
On another day
With a heavy heart and
Weak body
With brimming eyes as she sat
The tree bent over, caressed her
with its kind breeze
Showered her with it's flowers
The winged babies
Calling with their singing
Turned the note
From the tragic to joy.
